Steven and Julena’s wedding day was one of so many that did not go as planned, thanks to the pandemic, but I almost think it was more beautiful because of that! They had an evening ceremony and reception at the home of the bride, so we had the whole day to take pictures and prepare for the evening. Julena is Curtis’s cousin, so we really enjoyed getting to spend the day with the bridal party and family!
The two of them knew each other for years and even worked together for some time, but the paths they took that eventually led to each other were nothing short of God’s leading. Their wedding day was joyful in spite of everything and they were so happy to finally be getting married!
The day started with portraits at Lake Huron. It was a lovely, calm although a bit chilly morning. After that they and the bridal party enjoyed a breakfast provided by some friends. Next was bridal party and family pictures which we managed despite the notorious Michigan wind!
The beautiful white bouquets were arranged by the brides sister. Julena had been dissappointed to learn that local peonies would not be open in time, so Steve surprised her by ordering some!
When evening finally came, the wind died down and the ceremony was held their garage. The reception was in a pretty white tent in the backyard and an absolutely delicious meal was served. ( Curtis isn’t one to reminisce about food, but I think he’ll talk for awhile about that prime rib! 🙂
After the reception ( and nearly forgetting to sign the marriage license, which they quickly did at the kitchen table!) we quickly ran out behind her dad’s cow barn to catch the last light of a stunning sunset for their first photos as husband and wife.
Steve and Julena- your day was so fun, beautiful and special! Thank you for asking us to photograph it- we loved every minute!
