This wedding day was one for the books! I’ve never had a day that it actually rained all day. I think I told her, like I usually tell brides, it can’t rain ALL day, we’ll have time to get your pictures in! Well turns out, it CAN rain all day.
The day before the wedding it rained all day as well. I decided to drive the hour to the wedding location and do some detail shots and location scouting, since we planned to start early in the morning. When I got to the orchard we planned to use, not only were there hardly any blossoms left, it was a muddy mess, way too muddy to bring a bridal party into! (Carson and Kayla are both not from the area where the wedding venue was, so they weren’t able to do any researching to find another photo location)
The middle of Pennsylvania, beautiful as it is, doesn’t exactly have a lot of photo locations. Especially not when it’s been pouring all day and everything is soaking wet! So I spent some time driving around the area looking for options. As I was driving I happened to pass One Barn Farm. We had seen that location, but if course they had a wedding that day and we couldn’t go there. But I turned in the drive anyway to check it out. I happened to pull in just as the property manager was leaving. I told her my plight and how I really needed somewhere to go and I actually ended up getting permission to come and take photos there! It was such an answer to prayer. We didn’t have much time, but we got an hour to photograph the couple and the bridal party on the beautiful farm.
The forecast was correct for that day… nonstop rain. The first thing we did when we met Carson before photos was jump start his ’85 Ford pickup so he could use it. Then we went to One Barn Farm for the first look- I was so grateful I actually own clear umbrellas!
The morning went fairly well, all things considered 😄 We had to jump the two old trucks several times and stayed under umbrellas most of the time, but I was actually having fun with the extra challenges. Kayla’s lilac and rose bouquets went so well with the beautiful shade of purple her bridesmaids wore.
The reception was simple, bright and fun. The caterers served a delicious meal. During open mic, Carson’s siblings played and sang a few songs together, which just added to the fun of the reception.
After the wedding, the rain slowed to a drip for a little. I had seen these blooming apple trees while driving around in the morning so we went there for a few more photos. It turned out to be a perfect spot!
Blessings on your marriage, Carson and Kayla! I hope you have many sunny days ahead.
light + love, Michelle
