When Leanna first messaged me about photographing her wedding, I knew right away that I wanted to do it. It was obvious she valued photography very highly and those are my favorite kind of clients! As I got to know her more and we chatted back and forth about her wedding day, it really felt like she was a just a friend I hadn’t met yet.
Abe and Leanna met through Leanna’s cousin, who was a friend to both. After awhile, Abe began coming to the area not so much to see his friend but in hopes of seeing his friend’s cousin! Leanna didn’t realize how Abe felt about her and had no particular like for him but that changed 🙂
We traveled to out the day before their wedding and stayed at my parents in central Ohio overnight, then the next morning we drove the rest of the way to the small town in western part of the state where the wedding was held. It was a little cool and cloudy that morning but thankfully there was no rain in the forecast!
The day began with details and getting ready photos at the home of the bride, with her bridesmaids and sisters helping her. I always love to start a wedding day with time for these photos! It feels like we can ease into it a little more and not jump right into portraits. I also love the way I can get a sense of the bride’s style with the details she has!
The sun had come out and it warmed up considerably when we got to the farm for the first look. Abe and Leanna chose to exchange cards they had written for each other and read them before turning around to see each other and it was so sweet! Leanna warned me beforehand that the first look could get a bit emotional and it did, but it was so beautiful. They were so overwhelmed with love and joy as they embraced in the warm spring sunshine. As we moved into portraits, I had no problem getting them to relax and smile at each other! I took so many photos of them that picking out the best was almost impossible.
The bridal party joined us for a few photos at the farm and then we headed to the small town of Elida to a beautiful Catholic church for a few more photos of them and the family. I loved the way her colors of moss and peach went together! The dried grasses in the bouquets added such an airy feel to them.
The ceremony was held at a small white church nearby. During the ceremony, Abe and Leanna used the traditional vows but they said them to each other instead of the usual way they are done, and it felt so much more personal!
The reception was held a few minutes away at another church’s gym. The room was glowing with light from the string lights overhead and the many candles on the tables. It was simple and perfect! In a corner of the room was a super cute coffee bar that was well appreciated by the guests 🙂
After a delicious meal, ( with mac and cheese! ) the newlyweds cut the cake and shared a slice. And of course got a little frosting where it didn’t belong 🙂 The sun was setting in a clear sky, so we slipped away outside for a few moments of photos as Mr & Mrs! I’m so glad we took the time for that- the golden light was just perfect.
As the evening ended, the guests made their way outside and gave Abe and Leanna a grand farewell with blazing sparklers! I think the guests enjoyed it as much as the couple did! It was the best way to end the day.
Abe and Leanna- although we didn’t know you before your wedding day, it really didn’t feel that way! Your day was so full of joy and it was an honor to witness it. Blessings on your marriage!

p.s.- Abe planned the honeymoon as a surprise for Leanna, and from the hints he dropped she thought it was Florida, but he whisked her away to Cancun!
